The Miss Earth competition, held on Saturday 22nd August, will find a Green, glam and gorgeous Earth Girl. The eagerly anticipated international ‘beauties for a cause’, eco-inspired beauty competition is sponsored by Club4Climate, the UK’s first ecological night club. The competition is a modern take on the traditional beauty contest as it adds an environmental awareness twist.

With growing fears of climate change and global warming, Miss Earth is the beauty pageant for the new millennium. Contestants must have a strong knowledge of their country’s culture and environment in order to fulfill the ideals of this competition. The winner will be a strong and effective advocate for Mother Earth.

The Carbon Collective will be planting a tree for each of the finalists to help offset the event's carbon footprint. COS offset takes the form of woodland regeneration projects in the heart of the UK. They aim to recreate traditional woodland by planting trees native to the area which in turn encourages the regeneration of wildlife habitats.

The eco –friendly Grand Final is certainly a date not to be missed and is set to be a truly spectacular evening. A total of 65 green goddesses from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will compete. They will dazzle the audience and judging panel over 3 rounds. Outfits will include a Vintage green cocktail dress, a designer outfit made from recycled material, bottles tops, plastic bags and the like. The traditional long evening gown will also make an appearance. Winners will be awarded the prestigious titles of Miss Air, Miss Fire and Miss Water. Miss Earth is the top prize and will be awarded to the winner from each country.

A special award will go to the Earth Girl showing outstanding knowledge and making an exceptional contribution to environmental conservation in their home town. The Miss Earth Green Award “Beauties for a cause” will be announced during the Grand Final.

Prizes include a 5 star, three week, once-in-a-life-time trip to the Philippines this October, an Official Miss Earth trophy, a custom made, designer eco-handbag embellished with Swarovski crystal (from www.littlearthuk.co.uk), a photo shoot with top photographer Eileen Mason, and many, many more.

During their month in the Philippines the winning Miss Earth competitors are required to attend various environmental seminars and educate people on the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). The competition, which has contestants from over 100 countries, concludes with Miss Earth 2009 crowned in a televised coronation with the winner becoming the official spokesperson for the United Nations Environment Programme.
