Debate on technology, SEN and schools in House of Lords today

By Jonathan Bartley
July 15, 2010

Lord Rix will raise a question in the House of Lords today about how new technologies for children with Special Educational Needs will be provided, following the closure of a body which has previously provided them. He has written about it here.

One of the first cost-cutting moves by the coalition government was to announce that it was closing Becta. This was a major blow for disabled children. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are crucial for the inclusion of many children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and many children have benefitted from what it has done.

I raised the issues and potential impact when the Government's announcement was first made in a blog here which Lord Rix refers to in his own article (although he gets my name slightly wrong!).
