2014 marks the hundredth anniversary of the beginning of the First World War during which more than 16 million people were killed and 20 million wounded.
David Cameron has announced plans to spend £55 million on events to mark the anniversary. He has compared these to the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and described their aim as emphasising our "national spirit".
Peace campaigners throughout the UK are calling for a different kind of commemoration and will be organising religious, cultural, political and educational activities to mark the courage of many involved in the war whilst also remembering the devastation it caused.
The No Glory in War campaign is launched this evening, (25 October) with a concert entitled NO GLORY in war Remembering World War One: Campaigning for peace in music and words at St James Church, Piccadilly.
Those taking part include Brian Eno, Kika Markham, Roger Lloyd Pack, George Hlawiczka, John Landor, I Maestri, Sally Davies and Jeremy Corbyn MP.
