Living without enemies: seminar and videocast

Theologian and Anglican clergyman Sam Wells, who among other things is a specialist on the writings and thought of doyen Anabaptist-oriented public intellectual Stanley Hauerwas, has worked with Marcia Owen in the practical Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham (RCND) in the USA, as well as on a stimulating book called Living Without Enemies: Being Present in the Midst of Violence (InterVarsity Press, 2011).

Sam, who is rector of the famous St Martin-in-the-Fields Church in central London, England, and Marcia, who is secretary of RCND has served as a sales and marketing manager and lay leader in the local United Methodist Church, are speaking in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Monday 5th May at Martin Hall, New College, EH1 2LX

This event has been moved a day earlier than previously advertised because of a collateral bereavement, but we are pleased to report that the session will be filmed and made available as a video-cast.

The book and accompanying seminars tell the story of the coalition in practical and theological terms, resourcing fresh thinking about conflict transformation and peacemaking arising from a strong Christian tradition of resisting violence, reframing friendship and enemyship, and refounding human relationships.

This seminar is one of a series celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the Centre for Theology and Public Issues (CTPI) at the University of Edinburgh.
