The future of religion and belief in Scotland's schools

"Education or indoctrination: the future of religion in Scotland's schools" was the subject of a fascinating discussion at the University of Stirling on Thursday 23rd October, sponsored by Logie Kirk Trust and promoted by our partners at the Critical Religion Association (http://criticalreligion.org/).

Chaired by BBC Scotland’s Bill Whiteford, the panel consisted of the Rev Sally Foster Fulton, Convener of the Church and Society Council of the Church of Scotland; Douglas McLellan, Chief Executive, Humanist Society Scotland; Professor James Conroy, Vice-Principal (Internationalisation) and Professor of Religious and Philosophical Education, the University of Glasgow; and Sarah Clark, student of English and Religious Studies at the University of Stirling.

Ekklesia has been strongly involved in the debate about religion and belief in relation to education in England, as co-founder of the Accord Coalition for inclusive education.

Last year we began to have conversations with colleagues and associates in Scotland, where our co-director Simon Barrow is based, and we will be continuing to look at how we can participate in the emerging dialogue there.
