War Game showing to mark 70th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings, CND is hosting a screening of the classic anti-nuclear war film The War Game, including a discussion with the film's original editor Michael Bradsell, on Thursday 6 August.

CND has chosen the film to mark the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of two Japanese cities, because 2015 also marks the 50th anniversary of the film's production, and 30 years since it was first screened by the BBC, following a controversial decision to ban it.

The event takes place at 6 - 8pm, Thursday 6th August,
The Light at Euston, Friends House, 173-177 Euston Road

The event is free but registration is required.
Journalists wishing to attend and conduct interviews should contact the CND Press Office on 0207 700 2350 or 07968 420 859.

Ahead of the screening, Michael Bradsell said, "The authorities were very disturbed by The War Game, as Peter Watkins has depicted a very accurate conjecture of how badly prepared this country was for a nuclear war."

CND General Secretary, Kate Hudson, said, "This is a rare opportunity to watch a film that so effectively revealed the real horrors of nuclear war that politicians and civil servants had it suppressed. Recent investigations have shown Conservative MPs and Whitehall mandarins feared it would boost the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Don't miss this chance to see it and discuss it with one of its original crew."
