Nagorno-Karabakh: the frozen conflict on Europe's doorstep

By Press Office

A violent escalation in hostilities between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh has resulted in casualties and warnings of 'large-scale war'.

Nagorno-Karabakh, roughly translated as 'mountainous black garden', is a landlocked region that became part of Azerbaijan in the 1920s. While media attention is focused on conflicts elsewhere, this is in danger of becoming the unnoticed war brewing on Europe's doorstep.

Dr Harry Hagopian, an Ekklesia associate who is an international lawyer and expert commentator on regional politics, provides the historical background to the situation in this podcast.

He looks at the wider significance of the escalation of violence and what can be done to find a peaceful solution.
