Date set for BAE-Saudi corruption enquiry appeal
The Serious Fraud Office appeal against a judicial review judgment that said the BAE-Saudi corruption inquiry was stopped by the government unlawfully has been set for next week.
It will be heard at 10.00am, Monday 7th July – Tuesday 8th July 2008 in the House of Lords, Committee Room 1 or 2 (entry via St Stephen's Entrance).
The Appellate Committee of the House of Lords will hear the appeal by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) against the High Court ruling on 10th April 2008 that the SFO acted unlawfully in December 2006 when it terminated its investigation into alleged corruption by BAE Systems in recent arms deals with Saudi Arabia.
The two-day hearing is before an Appellate Committee of five law lords consisting of: Lord Bingham of Cornhill, Lord Hoffman, Lord Rodger of Earlsferry, Baroness Hale of Richmond and Lord Mance.
The ruling was a result of a judicial review brought by Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) and The Corner House that was held on 14th-15th February 2008 at the High Court before Lord Justice Moses and Mr Justice Sullivan.
