A group of Christians from several campaigning groups will come together to run a cafe as part of Climate Camp 2008 outside Kingsnorth Power station in Kent in August, helping to keep it fed and watered.
They will be providing refreshments to campers throughout the week-long event, as well as participating in workshops and other activities.
The cafe team draws its members from various organisations, amongst them Student Christian Movement, Christian Ecology Link and the SPEAK network, and from a wide range of church backgrounds.
Rosie Venner from the Student Christian Movement (SCM) declared: "We need to act with urgency and we need to act together at the grassroots if we are going to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and radically change the world for the better. Climate Camp offers us a glimpse of what we are capable of, so come and be inspired."
Ruth Jarmen of Christian Ecology Link added: "People should cancel their flight to the sun, because the Kingsnorth climate camp is where radically caring Christians should be early this August. For just a few days come and live with us in this hopeful community of resistance and get a taste of the kingdom of God."
The camp will take place between 3 and 11 August, outside Kingsnorth Power Station on the River Medway in Kent. Kingsnorth is an ageing coal fired power station due to close by 2015 under EU emissions regulations. Owner E.On hope to replace it with Britain's first new coal power station in 25 years.
The camp follows on from last year's event at Heathrow, which saw 1,500 people pitch tents on the site of the planned 3rd Runway. Camp organisers hope for around 2000 people at this camp, which will feature over 100 workshops and a "Day of Action" (Saturday 9 August 2008), during which they will attempt to shut down the plant.
