The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio and the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation have  filed a lawsuit challenging a law criminalising abortions when one of the woman’s reasons for the abortion is a foetal diagnosis of Down syndrome.

In his State of the Union speech on 30 January 2018,  President Trump announced he had signed a new Executive Order to overturn the US Government’s commitment to close the Guantánamo Bay detention centre which has been in place since January 2009.

Anti-nuclear campaigners have responded to the announcement made by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists that the Doomsday Clock has moved 30 seconds closer to midnight, with two minutes to go.

The American Civil Liberties Union has voiced its opposition to a bill that would reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which is set to expire on 19 January 2017, without key reforms. The bill text was released on 5 January and may be considered by the House  this week.
