A prison sentence is a deprivation of someone's liberty, not a sentence to poorer health or healthcare, say the Health and Social Care Committee in its report on health and care in prison.

A report from HM Inspector of Prisons describes prisoners sleeping and eating, "in what is, in effect, a shared lavatory.”

Prison reform will not succeed unless the violence and prevalence of drugs in jail are addressed and prisoners are unlocked for more of the working day, said Peter Clarke, Chief Inspector of Prisons. Today he published his second annual report, for 2016-17.

Two briefings have been published which present learning from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Prison Reform Fellowships. From 2010–2015, the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust funded Travelling Fellowships with a particular focus on prison reform across the world. The Fellowships are the result of an innovative partnership between WCMT and the Prison Reform Trust.
