Those refusing military service on religious or other grounds will be required to work in a jail or other correctional facility for three years. Previously, they would have been jailed for 18 months.
On Tuesday 15 May events will be held around the UK to remember, support and celebrate conscientious objectors, who have established and are maintaining the right to refuse to kill.
