Singing out for Africa
Another performance not to miss at Just Festival 2013 is the Glasgow Gospel Choir, who are singing their hearts out at St John's Church tonight (Saturday 17th August, 6pm) to raise money and awareness for Africa.
The choir has been described as possessing "an energetic mix of talent". Thoroughly community-based, it was established 14 years ago by Jerry Boweh – originally from Liberia – and brings a taste of soulful gospel to Glasgow.
Styles on display this evening will include African, Gospel, Motown and Blues. ? Something for everyone! Just as importantly, all profits raised go to the African Youth Development Action Project (http://aydap.wordpress.com/). Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions).
Just Festival, also known simply as Just, runs from 2-26 August 2013. It is based at St John's Church, Edinburgh, and some 27 other occasional venues, and combines artistic and performance style events with conversations, talks, films, exhibits and other ways of exploring how to live together creatively in a mixed-belief society.
