Over one hundred young people have scored with the “Give A Kid A Goal” initiative, as a charity graduation ceremony rewards their achievements this coming week.
On Tuesday 23 June 2009, 120 youngsters will receive gold medals and scrolls at Cathcart Old Parish Church, Carmunnock Road, after passing the global citizenship course run by Glasgow the Caring City.
The scheme, spearheaded by chief executive officer the Rev Neil Galbraith, taught pupils about international aid and development work, giving them a better grasp of the plight of others around the globe as well as targeting what they could do to make the world a better place.
A number of graduates will deliver special Powerpoint presentations to show what they have learned, with the top performer winning a multimedia studio for their school and a trophy.
Awards will be presented by invited mentors from the world of politics, the police, education, commerce and entertainment.
The guest of honour for the evening is Willie Docherty, managing director of City Building.
Mr Docherty is the man who re-introduced the apprenticeship opportunity schemes, taken up today by many young people in the city of Glasgow.
