Rule-breaking bailiffs are causing increased stress, anxiety and financial hardship, according to new research published by Citizens Advice and StepChange. The charities also found that the average person helped with council tax debt had just £15 a week disposable income.
Citizens Advice is calling for better regulation of unaccountable bailiff firms as it reveals households have fallen behind on their essential bills, such as council tax and utilities, by an estimated £18.9 billion.
