CPAG: Why benefits uprating is a ‘double lockout bill’

The Welfare Benefits Uprating Bill, which the UK government is pushing through the House of Commons today (8 January 2013) is a ‘double lockout bill’ that cuts real support for workers and jobseekers by four per cent, says the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG).

The claim comes in a new report published by CPAG yesterday. It features contributions from a range of experts, and says that the government’s welfare benefit uprating legislation is based on bogus claims and is a poverty-producing bill that will further exclude the poorest workers, jobseekers, carers and disabled people from the mainstream of society.
